May 13 through May 19, 2012: Women's Health Week

WHEREAS, in its 13th year, Women's Health Week is a weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health; and,

 

WHEREAS, top health concerns for women include obesity, heart disease, osteoporosis and abnormal uterine bleeding; and,  

 

WHEREAS, women of all ages in Michigan and throughout the nation are encouraged to make their physical and mental health top priorities by visiting a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings, eating healthy, staying active, managing stress and avoiding unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this week, we celebrate the remarkable progress scientists, medical professionals and public health agencies have made in women's health, and we raise awareness of the women's health issues in our state and country;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, May 13 through Saturday, May 19, 2012 as Women's Health Week in Michigan.
