May 20 through May 26, 2012: Public Works Week

WHEREAS, public works infrastructure, facilities and services are vital parts of sustainable communities and critical to the health, safety and well-being of the people of Michigan; and, 

 

WHEREAS, these facilities and services could not be provided without the significant efforts of public works professionals, engineers, managers and employees in the private sector and from state and local units of government; and,

 

WHEREAS, these dedicated workers are responsible for and must plan, design, build, operate and maintain the transportation, water supply, water treatment and solid waste systems, public buildings and other structures and facilities essential to serving the citizens of the Great Lakes State; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Michigan Chapter of the American Public Works Association to recognize the importance of public works infrastructure, facilities and services to the safety and quality of life of our citizens, and we honor all of the public works professionals serving in our great state; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, May 20 through Saturday, May 26, 2012 as Public Works Week in Michigan.
