June 2012: Michigan Golf Month
WHEREAS, home to half a million avid golfers and the most public golf courses in the nation, Michigan's golf industry has a significant impact on the state's economy accruing a total of approximately $4.2 billion each year; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan's golf courses and world-class golf resorts attract visitors from all over the nation, hosting national celebrity and professional golf events throughout the years, including Buick Opens, Ryder Cups and PGA Championships; and,
WHEREAS, known as America's "Summer Golf Capitol," Michigan was selected as Golf Digest's 12th best golf destination in the world; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we raise awareness of the positive economic impact that golf has had, and continues to have, in Michigan; we encourage citizens and visitors alike to visit the beautiful golf courses our state proudly has to offer;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 2012 as Michigan Golf Month.
