Thursday, June 14, 2012: Army Day
WHEREAS, the oldest and largest branch of our nation's military, the United States Army will celebrate its 237th birthday on June 14, 2012; and,
WHEREAS, the United States Army is rooted in the Continental Army, which was created on June 14, 1775 to meet the demands of the Revolutionary War; and,
WHEREAS, centuries later, the United States Army proudly shares a legacy of dedication, service and sacrifice that warrants the appreciation and gratitude of Americans each and every day; and,
WHEREAS, especially on Army Day, we recognize and honor every Michigan citizen that serves in the United States Army, and we remember those who have paid the ultimate price in service to our state and nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Thursday, June 14, 2012 as Army Day in Michigan.
