June 18, 2008 -- Scheduled to begin July 8, crews will begin bridge rehabilitation work on I-75 between Maple Road and M-15 in Oakland County. Initial work will require a single-lane restriction in both directions on I-75 as crews pave the shoulders in preparation for a traffic shift. Once the traffic shift is in place, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction during peak travel periods. This work, which will be done simultaneously in two sections, will include safety upgrades, resurfacing, and bridge repair work to 23 bridges within the project limits.
The first section will restrict northbound and southbound traffic on I-75 between Maple Road (Mile Marker 66) and Crooks Road (Exit 72) in Troy. This section of the project includes a safety upgrade to the Rochester Road entrance ramp to I-75 southbound. This ramp will be lengthened to provide motorists with additional time to accelerate and merge with highway traffic.
The second section is located between the M-24 connector (Exit 81) in Auburn Hills and M-15 (Exit 91) in Clarkston. This section includes resurfacing and pavement repair of both northbound and southbound I-75 between Giddings Road and M-15. In addition, 15 ramps will be rehabilitated within the interchanges of Joslyn, Baldwin and Sashabaw roads.
Throughout this project, multiple lane restrictions will be limited to nights and weekends. In addition, all road work will be coordinated with bridge repairs in order to limit the impact on motorists.
This project is part of a $16.5 million investment to restore the Metro Region's vital infrastructure along I-75 from the city of Troy to the city of Clarkston in Oakland County.
