Indian Lake Sate Park has plenty of "GO-Get Outdoors" activities planned for its August visitors, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Beginning Friday, Aug. 1, Indian Lake State Park will be celebrating "Dog Days" with Puppy Olympics, followed by a puppy parade and pageant on Saturday, Aug. 2. Participants are reminded that their dogs must be kept on a six-foot leash.
Be prepared to be dazzled on Saturday, Aug. 9, by an evening star show provided by the Perseid Meteor Showers. Perseid meteors will appear to "rain" into the atmosphere from the constellation Perseus in mid-August.
Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15 and 16, are devoted to water awareness, with Friday programs including a water walk and Water Olympics. Saturday programs will involve Thompson State Fish Hatchery tours, and historic raft rides over the big spring "Kitch-iti-kipi" at Palms Book State Park.
Indian Lake State Park will host a Safety Fair on Saturday, Aug. 30, with special guests from the Michigan State Police, DNR Law Enforcement and Fire Services and Smokey Bear who will be on-hand to help share the safety message.
Other Labor Day Weekend activities include a bat watch, crafts, hiking, and an old-fashioned campfire. Programs are free and open to all. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For more information about these events or the park, contact Indian Lake State Park at 906-341-2355.
