Oct. 6, 2008

Waterloo Recreation Area will be sponsoring a Michigan State University (MSU) vs. University of Michigan (U-M) Support Your Football Team weekend at Portage Lake Campground Oct. 24-26.

Activities include a bike parade, punting contest, quarterback toss, lawn games such as bean bag toss and ladder golf. These and other family-friendly activities will be held all weekend. There will also be an MSU vs. U-M tug-of-war and a competition to see who can show the greatest loyalty to their team with their site decorations.

"The Portage Lake campground is the ideal location for this event since it is centrally located between the two universities," said Park Ranger Shane Morse. "This event is always a great time to 'GO-Get Outdoors' with your family and friends to cheer on your favorite team."

Portage Lake Campground is located within the Waterloo Recreation Area on Seymour Road, about 15 miles west of Chelsea, Exit 147 or 150, off I-94. The campground offers 136 modern campsites with accessible sites and restrooms. Camping reservations for this fun-filled event can be made on-line at www.midnrreservations, or by calling 800-447-2757.

For more information about this event, the park, or accessibility at the park, contact the park supervisor at 734-475-8307 (TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired), or visit the Web site at www.michigan.gov/waterloo.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
