| Driver's License Types and Endorsements |
|
Most Michigan drivers will only need an operator license to drive passenger vehicles. However professions such as taxi driver, school bus driver, or commercial truck driver will require a chauffeur license and special endorsements. Persons who operate a moped must be licensed as an operator, chauffeur, or obtain a moped license.
In addition to the operator or chauffeur license, a person must obtain special endorsements to operate a motorcycle, a recreational double, commercial motor vehicles such as tankers, semi-tractor trailer combinations, or carry hazardous materials. A seasonal restricted commercial driver license is available for persons working in farm-related service industries. Farmers may obtain a farmer endorsement to operate certain types of vehicles. Minors may obtain a minor restricted license for farming operations.
