Renewing a State ID Card
You will receive a renewal notice about 45 days before your standard or enhanced state ID card expires. You may renew your ID up to six months early at any Secretary of State office if you are unable to renew it by mail or on time for any reason.
If your
Social Security number has not been verified by the Department of State, you
will be asked to provide proof of a valid Social Security number. If you are
applying for a standard state ID card and do not have a Social Security number,
you must present a letter of ineligibility from the Social Security
Administration and
proof of legal presence.
