Department of State offices to be closed for winter holidays

NOVEMBER 7, 2003

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced today that all branch offices and the Office of the Great Seal will be closed in observance of state holidays during November and December. The offices will be closed for:

  • Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28;
  • Christmas on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Dec. 26;
  • New Year’s on Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1 and Friday, Jan. 2.

Motorists whose driver’s licenses or license plates expire over the holiday should renew early. Branch offices are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Wednesdays the majority of offices are open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with those in city centers open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some smaller branch offices are closed for lunch.

Land encourages all customers who have Internet access to check out the department’s online services at www.michigan.gov/sos before visiting any branch office. For example, vehicle license plates and watercraft registrations can be renewed online. Browsing the site also helps customers determine fees and requirements before they go to an office.
