NOVEMBER 12, 2003

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced that the Mobile Branch Office will be at the Vermontville Fire Barn in Eaton County on Nov. 24 and 25 to serve area customers.

The facility provides all services found at any Secretary of State branch office and is handicapper accessible. It is hauled statewide on a 24-foot trailer.

The Vermontville Fire Barn is at the corner of First Street and Main Street. Hours on Nov. 24 are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 25.

"We want the Department of State to be convenient and accessible," Land said. "The Mobile Branch Office is one more tool that lets us better serve Michigan residents."

For the remainder of the year, the Mobile Branch Office travels to Plainwell, Battle Creek and Richland Township in Kalamazoo County. It has logged nearly 100,000 miles since it first hit the road six years ago.

Land encourages all customers who have Internet access to check out the department's online services at www.Michigan.gov/sos before visiting any branch office. For example, vehicle license plates and watercraft registrations can be renewed online. Browsing the site also helps customers determine fees and requirements before they go to an office.
