General Instructions:

  1. For security reasons, we recommend that you close your browser after you have finished accessing your refund or account information.
  2. This site uses SSL security. Please make sure this your browser supports this before attempting to access the page. Using Internet Explorer as an example, you would go to Tools - Internet Option, select the advanced tab, scroll down to the bottom of the list and make sure that both 'Use SSL 2.0' and 'Use SSL 3.0' are checked.

Internet Explorer users:
Internet Explorer 5.5 and later versions includes 128-bit encryption. If you already have Internet Explorer 5.5 installed, you may not need to upgrade your browser but may need to upgrade your operating system.

Note: Internet Explorer 5.5 and later versions support 128-bit encryption, but if your operating system (Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 3.51Windows NT 4, Windows NT 5 or Windows 2000) was installed prior to March 2000, there is no assurance that the 128-bit encryption is in place on the operating system. Windows operating systems installed after March 2000 support 128-bit encryption.

Please refer to the Microsoft's Downloads Web Site for more instructions and downloads to enable 128-bit encryption.

128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption

The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly used protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. This encryption protects your data from tampering and eavesdropping while it is in transit between you and our web servers. This precaution is taken to ensure that Treasury takes reasonable care to protect information provided to us, such as:

  • Social Security Numbers
  • Taxpayer Account information
  • Sensitive Government information
  • Payment or Refund information

If you get an error message telling you that you need a browser that supports 128-bit encryption, you must upgrade your browser. Be aware that, depending on the speed of your Internet connection, upgrading time may vary.
