USPAP Requirement

The Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) became a mandatory class for all assessing officers beginning with the year 2002 educational period.

It is required that every certified assessing officer attend some version of the USPAP class once every 5 years. All assessing officers will have the same 5-year period in which to attend a program. The first 5-year period was from October 1, 2001 through September 30, 2006. The second 5-year period runs from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2011. For 2007, the USPAP class will also serve as an annual renewal class in the renewal period that it is taken.

The educational program requirement may also be fulfilled through a mail-in version of the USPAP course. The mail-in version is free of charge. You may only request the mail-in version one time in the 5-year period. Requests to take the mail-in version of the USPAP course must be submitted in writing to the State Assessors Board via U.S. mail, fax (517-241-3583), or e-mail (duncansonb@michigan.gov).

If you take the USPAP course through an organization other than the State Assessors Board, it is your responsibility to submit proof to the State Assessors Board for credit.
